Vaginal birth is the most natural way of childbirth. Extrusion of the birth canal helps drain the water effectively and build up newborn breath very fast, which can not only reduce the chance of fetal lung diseases, but also physical injury to maternal. Maternal should have a good diet, control the body weight, do some exercises during pregnancy and do the prenatal check up on a timely basis in order to prepare for a successful childbirth.

What conditions does natural birth require ?

1. The best period for primiparas to have a child is between 25 to 29 years old when they are physically and mentally mature. Avoid giving birth after 35 years old since women who are older than 35 years old are called “advanced maternal”. A lot of complications can happen at this age.

2. A normal size fetus can easily go down through the pelvis, but it would be difficult for a macrosomia because usually the head is very big. It might get stucked in the entrance of pelvis which will probably lead to cesarean delivery.

3. Pregnancy exercises are not only good for gestational weight control, but also helps childbirth. Of course, pregnancy is a special physiological process, expectant mothers need to pay attention the time, amount of exercise and warm-up.

4. Regular prenatal check up can give you and your doctor the condition of fetal development, to discover problem in time.

How long does a childbirth take?

Childbirth starts from regular uterine contractions and ends with the delivery of placenta. The labor of primipara lasts around 16-18 hours and the labor of multipara lasts around 10 hours. Childbirth can be divided into 3 labor stages.

First stage: The time of the onset of true labor until the cervix is completely dilated to 10 cm.The first stage of labor is the longest and involves three phases:

Early Labor Phase –The time of the onset of labor until the cervix is dilated to 3 cm.

Active Labor Phase – Continues from 3 cm. until the cervix is dilated to 7 cm.

Transition Phase – Continues from 7 cm. until the cervix is fully dilated to 10 cm.

Second stage: The period after the cervix is dilated to 10cm until the baby is delivered.

Third stage: Delivery of the placenta.
