On December, 8th and 9th, 2015, Guangzhou Nursing Association and Guangzhou Elizabeth Women’s Hospital co-held “2015 Nursing Association Seminar·International Nursing Practice and Male Nurse Major Development Forum” at the 3rd Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. Awarding ceremony was held for the excellent nurses from various hospitals.

In the seminar, international nursing experts shared their achievements in nursing research. Experts such as the dean of US Texas Tech University Health Science Center and US Nursing Association, Prof. Jeanette T. Crenshaw; the master of nursing degree, Laurel Pilkington, Thalia Martin, Natalie Schuren each gave a speech over the topics of Nursing Research, Evidence-Based Nursing, Nursing Quality Control, Nursing Leadership and Male Nurse Major Development.

Prof. Jeanette T. Crenshaw is the clinical nursing doctor of US Texas Tech University Health Science Center, the former president of International Lamaze Association and the next president of US Breast feeding Committee. Prof. Jeanette has over 10 years’ nursing experience and many achievements in nursing research. In her speech, Prof. Jeanette indicated that every nurse was also leader who was progressing the development of nursing. She encourages nurses to be adventurous in the study of theories and the clinical practice of them. Prof. Jeanette’s speech was so humorous that attracted the audiences’ attention and earned their warm applaud.

In the next speech, the master of nursing degree from US Texas Tech University Health Science Center, Mrs. Laurel Pilkington brought a presentation on “The Practice and Leadership of Evidence-based Nursing”, showing the improvement for both clients and medical teams with the research evidence based on the nursing concepts, procedures and the importance of clinical nursing.

Next, US Medical Authentication Expert, the master of nursing degree from US Texas Tech University Health Science Center, Thalia Martin talked about how to be a well-rounded nurse and to prevent medical accidents by emphasizing the importance of improving nursing and medical quality, and patients’ safety. Mrs. Thalia Martin also shared to the audiences two patients’ safety tools which were “ARCC” and “STAR”

Next, advanced executive nurse authenticated by the US Committee, the master of nursing degree from US Texas Tech University Health Science Center, Mrs. Natalie Schuren delivered the topic of “Patients-centered care: Telephone nursing service”. Mrs. Natalie stated the necessity and feasibility of nursing inquiring phone calls. She explained that there were several situations where some patients were suffering and must take simple treatment before going to the hospital, some elder patients had difficulties visiting the hospital frequently and caring themselves at home, or some patients needed to ask the nurse after they went home from the hospital. However, telephone nursing service requires more professional nurses with more time to answer questions and follow records.

At last, professor of the 1st Affiliated Hospital of GZ Medical University, Mr. Li Jian Feng presented the topic “The past, present and future of Male Nurse”. He emphasize the importance and future of male nurse by the comparison of male nurses in China and foreign countries, of male nurses in the past and present. Mr. Li Jian Feng believed that male nurse is one of the key factors for the nursing development. In the future, male nurses will become the elites of nursing management and researching.

In conclusion, nursing experts from the US Texas Tech University Health Science Center and domestic hospitals had a great opportunity to communicate and exchange successful experience with each other. Guangzhou Nursing Association and Guangzhou Elizabeth Women’s Hospital wished that through this sort of chance, more and more nurses and medical workers could join together to learn and share, let great ideas spread and forward the development of Guangzhou nursing business.
